Types of Debarker

If you found yourself in a saw mill some years behind, you’ll find that barks of trees were sawn off and the slabs were discarded either by burning or dumping in waste fills. Today, the importance of fibre recovery from the barks of trees has changed the way things are done and this has resulted to the use of debarkers in sawmills. A ring debarker is especially common and most sawmill are making the most of the financial gains that come from the bark of the tree. Given the high cost involved in running a mill, debarking offers a way to absorb some of these costs.

With an increase in the economic importance of the bark of the tree, it has become necessary to avoid any errors that may be associated with debarking the wood. Improper debarking or trees or over debarking of trees could lead to a loss of value which will definitely impact negatively on any expected profits. It is therefore necessary to invest only in the best quality debarkers in the market. These should be machines that work in collaboration with other sawmill equipments to produce high quality fibre of much financial value.

There are different types of debarkers each with its accolades. There are drum, flail, cutter head and Ring Debarker. Drum debarkers work by the friction of the logs against each other as the drum rotates. Flail debarkers have chains that whip against the trees removing the bark in the process. In a cutter head model, a cutter head is applied to a rotating log. Apart of the three described models, ring debarkers that rotate around the logs have gained recognition as a reliable way of getting useful fibre therefore increasing profit.
