Leyland is located just 5 miles South of Preston and was once the 5th largest producer of trucks and buses in the world. The company radically changed the design of buses all over the world and was responsible for such classics as the single deck Leyland Lion, Tiger, Panther and Leopard. The Atlantean was to radically change the world of bus design and a range of trucks such as the Comet, Octopus and Hippo all went on to enjoy global success. The company started in a back yard in Leyland and went on to become the only remaining British owned vehicle manufacturer making cars, buses, trucks, tanks and fire engines which can all be found in Leyland today at the town museum.
The history of the company and a fascinating selection of buses, trucks, steam engines and engine design can be seen at the excellent Commercial Vehicle Museum in Leyland town centre. Those visiting Leyland might also want to explore the various shops, pubs and restaurants in the area or maybe explore the beautiful Worden Park with its art shops, miniature steam train, lakes and woodland. Anyone who is interested in living in the town will find a range of Leyland lettings and sales to suit all budgets.Discover a Century of Truck and Bus Building in Leyland by Carlos Danger
